Rotating Light Setup Breakdown

SETUP NOTES 📘

In this setup, I used a top-down light to motivate the green glow coming from the background. To balance it out, I added a warm rim light for a touch of softness along the side of my face, and a key light to bring out the details up front.

But the real star here is the moving background. For that, I got creative—using a motorized rotating display with a thrifted Kleenex box cover that had square cutouts. I placed the cover on the display and shined my Godox RS60R through it. The RS60R was perfect for this because its narrow beam kept the cutout shapes crisp and defined, adding movement and texture to the shot.

Here’s a full breakdown of the gear I used in this reel. I’ve linked everything below (these are affiliate links, which help support my page at no extra cost to you if you decide to grab anything—appreciate it!):

💡 Key Light & Rim Light – NEEWER RGB1 LED Tube
https://amzn.to/3SoEB4d
This compact tube light is super versatile. The built-in magnets make it easy to mount to metal surfaces, and the attachable barn doors give you more control over spill. Great for adding separation or edge lighting.

💡 Top Down Light – Godox ML100R
https://amzn.to/4mQdm0o
Don’t let the size fool you—this compact light packs a serious punch. Its lightweight design makes it perfect for mounting in tight or creative spots, especially when setting up overhead top-down lighting.

🌕 Top Down Light Softbox – Godox ML-SF50
https://amzn.to/4mSUz4B
This softbox hits the sweet spot—compact, quick to set up and tear down, and delivers a really soft, flattering quality of light.

💡 Bacckground Light - Godox RS60R
https://amzn.to/45RHPoq
A lightweight, portable 60W LED with full RGB capabilities, battery power, and seamless compatibility with a wide range of accessories.

🎥 Motorized Rotating Display (Background Light)
https://amzn.to/46c1fTY
Perfect for product shoots, this motorized display doesn’t just showcase items—it can also bring creativity to your lighting setups. Place objects on it and shine a light through as it rotates to add dynamic shapes and movement to your scene.

📷 Camera – Sony ZV-E1
https://amzn.to/43flM9U
This is my main camera for video. Incredible in low light, and it shares the same sensor as the FX3—but at a way more affordable price point.

👀 Lens – Tamron 28-75mm F2.8
https://amzn.to/44Ss1kV
This is hands-down my most used lens. If I could only take one with me, it’d be this one. The 28–75mm range gives you tons of versatility, and at f/2.8, it’s tack-sharp with beautiful depth.
